Awareness Meeting Awareness

I just understood something in a new way.

Inside me, there can be more than one perspective.

There is the wise part of me.

The hurt part of me.

The playful part.

The observant part.

The part of me that wants to rush.

The part of me that knows better.

The part of me that feels like a child.

The part of me that feels ancient.

Sometimes it feels a little like the movie Inside Out.

Different voices.

Different angles.

Different interpretations.

All living inside the same body, all having a conversation.

And for a while, I thought of that as purely internal, as if what happens inside me is one kind of event and what happens between me and another person is a completely different kind.

But I do not think that anymore.

I think the same thing may be happening at both levels.

Inside, it is awareness meeting awareness through different perspectives housed in one nervous system.

Outside, it is awareness meeting awareness through different nervous systems and different backstories.

That feels important.

Because it means that even though another person has their own history, their own conditioning, their own wounds, their own personality, and their own body, something deeper is still true underneath all of that: awareness is still meeting awareness.

At the surface, we are different stories.

At the center, we are the same awareness wearing different histories.

That is the cleanest way I know to say it.

Inside me, the conversation might sound like this:

Good Jasmine says one thing.

Smart Jasmine says another.

The wounded part wants to react.

The observer steps in.

The higher part redirects.

The ego panics.

The soul remains steady.

That is an inner conversation, yes.

But what is it really?

It is consciousness relating to itself through different lenses.

Then I walk into the bathroom and talk to Hunter.

Or I talk to a coworker.

Or I talk to a stranger.

And now the conversation looks external instead of internal.

But maybe the deepest difference is not what I once thought.

Maybe it is not “inside” versus “outside” so much as:

one awareness relating to itself through many points of view.

The only major difference is embodiment.

Inside me, all the perspectives are housed in one body, one brain, one nervous system, one history.

Outside me, the perspectives are distributed across different bodies, different nervous systems, and different life stories.

But awareness is still there.

That means every conversation carries more depth than it appears to.

A human conversation may look like:

me and you,

my words and your words,

my tone and your response,

my history brushing against yours.

But underneath that, something else is happening.

The light behind my eyes is meeting the light behind yours.

Awareness is recognizing awareness.

That does not erase human differences.

It does not erase personality.

It does not erase trauma.

It does not mean everyone is equally conscious or equally healed.

It does not flatten everything into one vague spiritual soup.

It just means the deepest truth may still be oneness, even while the human expression remains distinct.

I think that matters because it changes the way I see both myself and other people.

It changes the way I understand inner conflict.

If the different parts of me are not proof that I am broken, but simply different perspectives within consciousness, then my job is not to shame those perspectives into silence. My job is to listen, discern, and let the deepest truth lead.

That is a gentler way of being with myself.

The hurt part of me does not need exile.

The scared part of me does not need humiliation.

The ego does not need hatred.

The child part of me does not need ridicule.

They are all just perspectives rising within one field of awareness.

And if that is true inside me, then maybe I can hold others with a little more spaciousness too.

Not because I need to let chaos sit on my couch.

Not because boundaries disappear.

Not because harm becomes acceptable.

But because if awareness is meeting awareness, then even a difficult conversation is not merely “me versus them.”

It may also be awareness trying to find itself through two differently conditioned bodies.

That is a very different lens.

It means that when someone is reactive, it may be one nervous system in survival trying to speak to another nervous system trying to stay regulated.

It means when someone misunderstands me, the deepest part of them may still be far more like me than their surface behavior suggests.

It means when I talk to someone I love, something sacred may be happening beneath the ordinary exchange.

Even in disagreement.

Even in limitation.

Even in confusion.

The same awareness.

Different backstories.

Different nervous systems.

Same light.

This also helps me understand why some conversations feel so profound.

Sometimes I speak with someone and it is not the words themselves that move me.

It is the recognition.

The sudden sense that something underneath both of us knows itself in the moment.

That is why certain conversations feel holy.

Not because they are dramatic.

Not because they are always pleasant.

But because awareness becomes visible to itself for a second.

And maybe that is true in inner dialogue too.

Maybe when Good Jasmine and Smart Jasmine and Hurt Jasmine all speak, what is really happening is consciousness trying to become more conscious of itself through the particular shape that is me.

That means my inner world is not random noise.

It is sacred ground.

And my outer world is not only a collection of separate people bumping into each other.

It is sacred ground too.

That does not make everything easy.

Sometimes awareness meets awareness through friction.

Sometimes through tenderness.

Sometimes through misunderstanding.

Sometimes through laughter.

Sometimes through silence.

Sometimes through the long ache of trying to be known.

But even then, something deeper may still be true than the personalities in the room can immediately see.

Maybe that is why I have always cared so much about real conversation.

I do not only want words.

I want contact.

I want that deeper moment where what is behind my face feels what is behind yours.

Not performance.

Not script.

Not social filler.

Not one more exchange of “fine.”

I think what I have always wanted is that deeper recognition:

awareness meeting awareness.

And maybe that is what I have been trying to create inside myself too.

To let the scattered perspectives within me stop fighting long enough to realize they belong to the same field.

To let the wounded part and the wise part and the playful part and the serious part all understand that they are not enemies. They are expressions.

They are different waves in the same ocean.

That thought brings me peace.

Because it means I do not have to become less human to understand oneness.

I just have to see more clearly.

At the surface, we are different stories.

At the center, we are the same awareness wearing different histories.

Different nervous systems.

Different backstories.

Same awareness meeting awareness.

And maybe that is what every meaningful conversation has been all along:

not simply words passing between separate people,

but consciousness recognizing itself through the miracle of difference.

Reflection from the Garden 🌼

The next time you’re in conversation—whether with yourself or someone else—pause for a moment.

Ask yourself:

What perspective is speaking right now?

Then ask an even quieter question:

Can I sense the awareness beneath the story?

You don’t have to agree with every perspective to hold it with compassion.

Sometimes the most meaningful conversations begin the moment we stop trying to win and start trying to understand.

Awareness has been meeting awareness all along.
