Cast Your Vote How We Become Ourselves One Conscious Choice at a Time

For a long time, I thought becoming a better person meant simply making better choices.

But healing taught me to look deeper.

Two people can make the exact same choice for completely different reasons.

I can help someone because generosity reflects my values.

Or I can help because I’m afraid they’ll stop loving me if I say no.

Same action.

Different vote.

Little Jasmine first learned to change her behavior because she was afraid of what would happen if she didn’t.

Adult Jasmine gets to choose differently.

Not because someone might yell my middle name.

Not because I need approval.

Not because I need to prove that I’m good.

I choose because I know the kind of woman I want to become.

Maybe character isn’t built through one enormous decision.

Maybe it is a lifetime of tiny elections.

And every time awareness places the ballot back into our hands, we get another opportunity to ask:

Who am I voting for today?

I Didn’t Heal the World. I Healed Mine. And maybe that is how the ripples begin.

For a long time, I thought healing had to mean something enormous.

I thought maybe if I healed deeply enough, I could somehow heal the world.

I don’t know that anymore.

What I do know is this:

My healing healed my world.

It changed the voice inside my own head.
It changed what I tolerate.
It changed the way I love.
It changed the way I experience an ordinary day.

I stopped living in other people’s opinions.

I stopped living entirely in the past.

I stopped waiting for the future to become better than the life I already had.

Healing didn’t give me a perfect existence.

It taught me how to live the one I was already standing in.

Little Jasmine kept walking long enough to get me here.

Now I get to live the life she carried all this way.

Thoughts Are Allowed in the Car They Just Don’t Get the Keys

I used to think peace would come when I finally figured out how to silence my mind.

Now I know better.

My mind never needed to disappear. My ego never needed to become my enemy. The baby never needed punishment. The chaotic coworker never needed termination.

They needed leadership.

They needed awareness.

They needed someone to stay.

And today, I did.

For hours, I stayed with myself so fully that the part of me accustomed to running the whole operation finally seemed to realize:

Oh. She’s home.

My thoughts are allowed in the car.

They just don’t get the keys.

I Saw Me

I think part of me had been waiting for a witness.

Someone to notice the distance between where I came from and what I created. Someone to say, I see how hard you worked. I see what you changed. I see what you gave your children that you never had.

But eventually I realized something:

I was there for every mile of it.

I know the effort. I know the love. I know what it cost me to build differently.

I can enjoy being recognized without requiring recognition to know my worth.

I saw me.

Little Jasmine, We Made It Home

For a long time, I thought healing meant building a better life around myself.

A cleaner home.
A safer home.
A calmer home.

And I did.

But somewhere along the way, I realized I was also learning to become the kind of person Little Jasmine could finally trust.

The adult who doesn’t yell.

The supervisor who gives breaks.

The woman who notices when something hurts.

The one who stays.

I didn’t just build a peaceful home.

I became one.

Be the Lighthouse, Not the Rescue Boat

For a long time, I thought love meant carrying more.

Understanding more.
Forgiving more.
Trying harder.
Stepping in before someone fell.

But somewhere along the way, I learned that love and rescue are not the same thing.

Rescue says, “You cannot do this without me.”

Love says, “I believe you can.”

I can offer a hand, a light, a truth, a boundary, a place to rest. But I cannot do someone else’s becoming for them.

I want to be the lighthouse now.

Steady.
Rooted.
Bright enough to help someone find their way.

But still trusting them to steer.

Once I Could Name It

I thought healing meant the old feelings would never return. Instead, healing taught me something better: they can return, and I do not have to go with them. Once I could see it, I could name it. Once I could name it, it lost its grip.

I Stopped Reading the Room

Closing Reflection

Think about the rooms you enter every day.

Work.
Family gatherings.
Friend groups.
Relationships.
Even social media.

Do you arrive as yourself?

Or do you immediately start scanning?

Who is upset?
Who needs something?
Am I too much?
Should I be quieter?
Should I soften?
Should I fix the mood?

Now ask yourself:

What would it feel like to stop using the room to decide who you are allowed to be?

You can still be thoughtful.

You can still be kind.

You can still notice what is happening around you.

But awareness does not have to become self-erasure.

The next time you enter a room, try reminding yourself:

I do not have to earn my place here by disappearing.

Let the room meet you.

Let the people in it reveal who they are.

And most importantly, notice whether you can leave still feeling like yourself.

Because belonging is not being accepted everywhere.

Belonging is knowing how to stay connected to yourself wherever you go.

The Blue Phoenix

For years, I thought the Phoenix was the woman who survived the fire. Now I understand she was the fire itself—burning away every place I had abandoned myself, played small, overgave, and confused softness with access. The Blue Phoenix has risen, and this time she is here to live.

The Safety of Being Exceptional

I used to think I wanted to be the most talented person in the room because I was competitive. The deeper truth was harder to admit: ordinary me didn’t always feel safe enough. Somewhere along the way, I learned to believe that if I could become useful enough, impressive enough, hardworking enough, creative enough, maybe I would become harder to leave. But love was never supposed to be a performance review. I am learning that I don’t have to become extraordinary to be worthy of ordinary love.

There was Never a Trophy There

For years, I thought winning meant finally being chosen by the person who once rejected me. Then I asked myself a question that changed everything: What exactly was I trying to win? I didn’t want the chaos, betrayal, anxiety, or life that came with the supposed prize. Somewhere along the way, I had already won—I just hadn’t looked around long enough to notice. The life I created is the prize. The woman I became is the prize. I walked myself home.

Awareness Meeting Awareness

What if the conversations happening inside us and the conversations happening between us are more alike than we realize? This reflection explores a simple but transformative idea: beneath our different histories, personalities, and nervous systems, awareness is always meeting awareness—and recognizing that changes the way we relate to ourselves and one another.

The Popcorn Method

What happens when your mind takes one tiny piece of information and turns it into a full-blown soap opera?

In The Popcorn Method, I share how I caught my ego spinning a dramatic story—and instead of shaming myself or believing every word, I sat back, laughed, and asked it to continue. Because sometimes healing is not silencing the mind. Sometimes it is becoming safe enough to hear the truth without letting the story take over.
