Soul Alignment is Surprisingly Simple
Soul Alignment Is Surprisingly Simple.
And Maybe That’s Why We Keep Missing It
For a long time, I thought being aligned with my soul would feel more… impressive.
Surely there would be signs.
Downloads.
Synchronicities.
Maybe some dramatic knowing that arrived in my chest while the universe played appropriate background music.
Something.
Because people talk about soul alignment like it’s an advanced spiritual achievement.
Get aligned. Follow your highest timeline. Embody your higher self.
Okay.
But HOW?
Do I meditate for an hour?
Do yoga?
Journal?
Ground barefoot in the yard?
Open my chakras?
Wait for my spirit guides to finally answer one of the approximately seven thousand emails I’ve mentally sent them?
Because apparently the Divine does not have a customer-service department. 😂
Then one morning, sitting in my car before work, I asked myself a much simpler question:
What would I actually have to do today to live in soul alignment?
And the answer was almost annoyingly ordinary.
Be where my feet are.
Listen when someone speaks.
Drink some water.
Move my body.
Tell myself the truth about what I’m feeling.
Create something if I feel called to create.
Don’t deliberately go looking for something I already know will disturb my peace.
Don’t turn every thought into a prophecy.
Don’t abandon today because I’m busy planning tomorrow.
Notice something beautiful.
Come back when my mind wanders.
That’s it?
THAT’S ASCENSION?!
I was expecting robes. 😂
But maybe we’ve made spirituality much more complicated than it needs to be.
What If Alignment Isn’t a Feeling?
I think this is where I misunderstood it.
I thought alignment was something I would feel.
Now I think alignment is something I practice.
There will be mornings when I feel peaceful and expansive.
There will also be mornings when I’m tired, irritated, hormonal, distracted, or wondering why everyone around me has apparently decided to test my commitment to enlightenment before 9 a.m.
Neither determines whether I’m aligned.
My response does.
If peace matters to me, do my choices protect my peace?
If presence matters to me, am I actually participating in the moment I’m standing in?
If my body matters to me, am I taking care of it?
If creativity makes me feel alive, am I making room for it?
If honesty matters to me, am I telling myself the truth?
If my children matter to me, am I actually with them when I’m with them?
If I say I love Jasmine, am I treating her like someone I love?
That’s alignment.
My actions agreeing with my values.
Suddenly the whole thing became much less mystical.
And much more challenging.
Because it’s easy to believe beautiful things.
It’s another thing entirely to live them on a random Tuesday.
Your Soul Probably Doesn’t Need a Better Morning Routine
There’s nothing wrong with meditation.
I love yoga.
I love ritual, symbolism, synchronicities and all the weird little breadcrumbs that make me stop and wonder whether somebody behind the curtain has a sense of humor.
But none of those things automatically make me aligned.
I can meditate and then spend six hours obsessing over something I cannot control.
I can pull cards and ignore what reality is showing me.
I can talk about presence while completely leaving the present moment.
I know this because I recently managed to miss an entire company fire drill while talking to AI about awareness.
I am also the champion of our safety committee.
You cannot make this shit up. 😂
Apparently enlightenment still requires listening for the fire alarm.
And maybe that’s exactly the lesson.
Spirituality isn’t supposed to remove me from ordinary life.
It’s supposed to bring me deeper into it.
Be Where Your Feet Are
Maybe one of the most spiritual things I can do today is mop a floor while actually knowing I’m mopping a floor.
Feel my hands.
Hear the machines.
Notice my breathing.
And when my mind starts wandering into yesterday, tomorrow, some hypothetical conversation, some unanswered question about the universe—
come back.
I’m right here.
Not angrily.
Not because thinking means I’ve failed at consciousness.
Just:
There you went.
Come home.
Again.
And again.
And again.
Maybe presence isn’t staying perfectly present.
Maybe presence is becoming really good at returning.
And Sometimes Alignment Means Doing Nothing
This one matters.
We’re obsessed with action.
What should I do to become aligned?
Sometimes alignment is what I refuse to do.
I don’t check the profile.
I don’t send the text.
I don’t participate in the argument.
I don’t chase the sign.
I don’t force the answer.
I don’t say yes when my entire body is saying no.
I don’t create another project because finishing the one in front of me feels less exciting.
I don’t consume another hour of other people’s thoughts because sitting quietly with my own feels uncomfortable.
Sometimes the highest-aligned action available to me is an inaction.
A pause.
A boundary.
An unanswered invitation from an old pattern.
Maybe This Is What Embodiment Means
I’ve spent a lot of time trying to understand life.
Lately I’m wondering whether my next chapter isn’t about understanding more.
Maybe it’s about living what I already understand.
I don’t need another revelation telling me my body deserves care.
Move it.
I don’t need another revelation telling me creativity matters to me.
Create.
I don’t need another revelation telling me my children are precious.
Look at them.
Listen to them.
Be there.
I don’t need another revelation about choosing myself.
Choose myself in the tiny decisions nobody will ever applaud.
Maybe soul alignment isn’t ascending somewhere above my humanity.
Maybe it’s descending fully into it.
Into this body.
This house.
This job.
This family.
This garden.
This Tuesday.
This breath.
Today Is Enough
And maybe that’s the practice I want to carry forward.
Not:
How aligned was I today?
Not:
Did I vibrate high enough?
Not:
Did the universe send confirmation?
Just:
Did I show up for the life that was actually here?
Because I don’t think I will ever “get there.”
There will always be another question.
Another lesson.
Another strange feeling.
Another thing I don’t understand.
Another opportunity to grow.
But I don’t need to understand tomorrow in order to inhabit today.
Today already contains things worthy of my waking up.
And perhaps soul alignment really is this simple:
Be where your feet are.
Tell yourself the truth.
Take care of the body carrying you.
Protect what brings you peace.
Create more than you consume.
Love the people in front of you.
Leave what isn’t yours alone.
And when you wander, come back.
No cosmic certification required.
No enlightenment badge.
No perfectly regulated nervous system.
No email from God.
Just this moment asking:
Are you here?
And me answering:
Yes. I’m right here.
Maybe soul alignment isn’t learning how to leave this world. Maybe it’s finally learning how to be completely here.
Closing Reflection
Before you leave this little corner of the garden, ask yourself:
What would soul alignment actually look like in my life today?
Not someday when you’re healed enough, disciplined enough, spiritual enough, or finally have everything figured out.
Today.
Where are your feet?
What does your body need?
What truth have you been avoiding?
What deserves your attention?
What can you leave alone?
What tiny thing would make you feel more alive?
And if you realize halfway through the day that you’ve wandered away from yourself, there is no failure in that.
Just come back.
Again and again.
Maybe alignment isn’t staying perfectly centered.
Maybe alignment is knowing the way home.
And home is always right here. ❤️
